The New Haven-based band Ovlov (New Haven? I wonder if they’ve played with QRO fave & former "Colonels of Connecticut" EULA?) has a hard-driving vintage ’90s sound, shades of Dinosaur Jr. & Pavement. A lot of bands riding this 90s revival wave. Total Slacker, Yuck, etc. I was there the first time. Sure, yeah, it kicked ass to say ‘adios’ to bad hair metal & embrace grunge. But then grunge turned to shitty emo. Does a 90’s grunge revival signal the inevitability of an emo revival? Oof — harbinger of bad things to come.

"I Got Well" comes off Ovlov’s EP What’s So Great About The City? Damn, doesn’t that question just smack of total slackitude? Well, I dig it. The rapid fire drum rolls, heavy riffing, and clean verses. It’s good music to listen to while fixing your car, or heading down to the coffee shop to read Heidegger, or dating Winona Ryder.

Hit up Ovlov at their own site & say hi on Facebook & download the EP gratis on Bandcamp & find out what happens when seven strangers are picked to live in a loft & stop being polite & start acting real & steal each other’s peanut butter.
