QRO’s love affair with Arbutus Records rolls on with an mmmp3 gem from Pop Winds, a Montreal-based trio that mixes the bloopier-bleepier side of Flaming Lips with echo chamber vocals, slow n’ steady percussion, and the sweetest rock sax this side of "Walk On The Wild Side." It takes a hell of a lot to make me appreciate rock sax, so you know "Drowning In The Dark" is legit – as is the entire full-length album The Turquoise. Pop Winds carves out their own synthy, grinding-gears, ambient niche in sweet unhurried fashion that smacks occasionally of the epic.

Go drown yourself in the dark! Metaphorically! And when you like what you hear, download the entire name-your-own-price-album here (thanks Arbutus Records). Here’s the Bandcamp and Myspace, but you might as well get the record from Arbutus Records so you can dig on all the other artists they’ve got in house.
