There’s a sub-genre of music that you might call helium-inflected, up-tempo dance rock. Put Foster The People in that category, Passion Pit too, and the Pass probably belongs there as well. Hard to get a read on these bands from the albums alone because acts that lean so heavily on synthesizers can bluff their way pretty far on the basis of a well written hook. Sometimes there are some serious chops behind a simple hook (see MGMT "Kids"), but sometimes there’s nothing at all (see most one-hit wonders). Which category does the Pass and their album Burst fall into? Can’t really say until you see them live, see what kind of show they put on — so get out there, go to a show with the Kentucky natives, and let me know what they’re made of. All I know right now is the Pass has a fun, slick sounding record on their hands in Burst, and that’s a pretty good start.

Stream "Vinyl" below, listen & purchase the album at their Bandcamp, and go say hi on the Twitter!
