Octfest 2019 Preview

Famed music site Pitchfork once again teams up with beer site october for Octfest in New York, coming to the Knockdown Center on Saturday, October 19th, with tons of different breweries and some Pitchfork-selected musical acts:

Parquet Courts, 10:00 PM – 11:00 PM

Bringing grunge back has been the active Parquet Courts (QRO photos at a festival), who come home to New York for Octfest (QRO photos at a festival) after last year’s release of Wide Awake!, and more just this summer playing Pitchfork’s own festival (QRO photos at Pitchfork ‘19).
Parquet Courts
Screaming Females, 9:15 PM – 10:00 PM

Fronted by an actual female, singer/guitarist Marissa Paternoster, the punk rock trio got a lot of praise in 2009 for Power Move (QRO review), and have kept up their self-described sound (QRO photos at a festival), most recently with last year’s All at Once.
Screaming Females
Mogwai, 8:15 PM – 9:15 PM

There are a few icons in post-rock, such as Explosions In the Sky and Mogwai. The Scottish outfit has done everything from a live DVD, Burning (QRO photos at a festival) to soundtracking Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait (QRO review – though that was before the French football star did his illegal head-butt in the World Cup). 2011’s awesomely titled Hardcore Will Never Die, But You Will (QRO review) was a major comeback after the disappointing The Hawk Is Howling (QRO review), and though 2014’s Rave Tapes (QRO review) seemed overdone, 2017’s Every Country’s Sun was great. They’re a much in-demand act (QRO live review) that comes to Octfest (QRO photos at a festival).
Mogwai
Lower Dens, 7:30 PM – 8:15 PM

Little ol’ Baltimore has gotten a rep in indie-circles – and alt-rockers Lower Dens (QRO photos at a festival) is one of the reasons why (QRO live review), playing Octfest the month after the release of their latest, The Competition.
Lower Dens
Iceage, 6:40 PM – 7:40 PM

Copenhagen’s punk rock outfit Iceage (QRO photos at a festival) deliver on record (QRO song review), but struggle a little live (QRO live review). They come to Octfest behind last year’s Beyondless.
Iceage
Duster, 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Incorporating space rock and slowcore into their indie is San Jose’s Duster, who haven’t put out new material in a while, but this year released collection box set Capsule Losing Contact.
Duster
METZ, 5:30 PM – 6:15 PM

Both loud and skilled, Toronto’s METZ (QRO live review) come ready to rock and impress at Octfest (QRO photos at a festival).
