Polarkreis 18 : The Colour of SnowWith a highly elaborate set of forward-thinking alt-rock tunes that includes a stadium-sized sing-along, Polarkreis 18 is becoming a true leader in the modern alternative movement.  Enchantingly smooth vocals, clever orchestration, and complex guitar/drum combos make The Colour of Snow one of the most engaging releases of 2008 in this genre.

It seems there's no pace or magnitude that the German band can't handle on this album.  The opening fury on "The Tourist" collapses into a glistening piano riff and back with pure grace.  The soaring "Allein Allein" is nearly perfect for a football anthem, while "Untitled Picture" is a gorgeous piano-laced track, and "River Loves the Ocean" is a calm, steely orchestral strain.  Not only do they attempt a wide range of songs, but they execute them with skill beyond their years.

Expanding on their solid self-titled release, Polarkreis 18 delivers a complicated, but very accessible album in The Colour of Snow.  It will do no less than further the standard of alternative rock on the global stage.
