In a future world distorted by cynicism, only the faintest elements of pop music exist. In that world, Air France drenches dance-pop tunes in such thick operatic and electronic currents that’s present-day art in the meantime. And their No Way Down EP is highly sophisticated without indulgence, and ultimately ahead of its time.
Air France mixes a more dramatic side of club-worthy electronics with soft vocals and elegance that’s unique, as a combination of movements from the last century and beyond. A ’90s European dance vibe energizes most of the EP as "Collapsing At Your Doorstep", "No Excuses", and the title track all have an uptempo, synth pace but with a powder-faced restraint. Orchestral wallpaper gives No Way Down that classical feel like on the gold-encrusted drama of "Windmill Wedding", where the EP really stretches back to an Old World style.
Six complex songs that combine ultra-modern entertainment with antiquated strains make No Way Down one of the all-around smoothest electronic releases of the year.
