Ever since she started, Bethany Cosentino’s Best Coast have been as sunny as their favored coast, but also as lacking in depth. Records like 2012’s The Only Place (QRO review) and 2015’s California Nights (QRO review) were nice, but only nice, and that doesn’t change with the cheery Always Tomorrow.

First things first, Always is almost always a nice, enjoyable listen. From the rock-bop drive opener “Different Light” onward, this is an album that is easy on the ears. If there’s nothing that stands out as inspired, there’s also nothing that stands out as unwanted. Yes, the songs run together in a shiny sway, but pieces like “For the First Time” and “Master of My Own Mind” are what Best Coast do well.
So if you like Best Coast, and they’re easy to like, Always Tomorrow is another reason to like them, if not to love them.
