Boys Like Girls : Crazy World EP It has been three years since this American pop-rock band from Massachusetts announced that they would be going on an indefinite hiatus, following the release of their second album Love Drunk.  However, soon after this devastating news, there had been rumours floating around various corners of the internet that they had already made plans to get back into the studio in order to start work on their third album; and it seems these rumours are true as the Crazy World EP was released to the band’s adoring fans in 2012 – not exactly complying with the meaning of indefinite, as it seems they’d already had some inkling as to when they were keen to start up again.

It can’t all be good news though, as November 2011 saw the departure of the band’s previous bassist, Bryan Donahue, for having so much involvement in his various solo projects which inevitably disrupted the progress of the band.  Replacing him would be a new, permanent bassist, Morgan Dorr, who can be heard on the upcoming album and currently released EP.  The completed record is set to be released in the fall of 2012, comprising of several titles confirmed by Martin Johnson (vocalist) and lead guitarist Paul DiGiovanni.  These titles are: "Be Your Everything", "Cheated",  "Stuck in the Middle", "Leaving California", "Shoot", "Crazy World", "Take Me Home", "Red Cup, Hands Up, Long Brown Hair", "Life of the Party", and "The First Time".

Three of the songs from the album, "Be Your Everything", "Life of the Party" and "The First Time", make up the current EP available right now and although it only comprises of three full length tracks, it does its job in giving a comprehensive preview into the delights of the entirety of the album expected.

"Be Your Everything" is reminiscent of the band’s usual style, nothing to be surprised by at all.  Whilst this first track takes you back to the band’s previous album Love Drunk and a song that featured pop singer Taylor Swift (QRO photos), "Two Is Better Than One", in regards to the theme of love and romance, this first taster is great in so many ways.  Lyrically, the track is fantastic, memorable and will have you singing along in a matter of no time, as the lyrics are applicable to anyone who has been in a relationship – a feature within Boys Like Girls’ lyrics that makes them so popular.  Similarly, this stylization of the lyrics has occurred throughout all three tracks within this EP, also including that of "Life of the Party", a song which at the beginning not only strikes a chord reminiscent of Bruno Mars, but is a song that will be anyone’s theme for a weekend of unwinding after a hectic week of work.  Last, but certainly not least in terms of quality there is "The First Time", a mourning of the past and what it leaves behind as we all age; a remorseful tune, yet still remaining upbeat, which brought past memories from younger years flooding back.

Vocally, Johnson is flawless and almost mesmerising.  It is clear that Boys Like Girls found their style a long time ago, and it’s a style that works well for them, if a little repetitive.  Similarly, although the band has suffered a loss from the absence of previous bassist Bryan Donahue, it seems they have gained much more through Morgan Dorr, as he clearly shows his talent and ability to fit the band’s style and in addition, bringing such great backing vocals also.
