Cults : Offering

Back in 2010, Madeline Follin and Brian Oblivion came out of nowhere with their self-titled Cults EP, and followed it up with a self-titled debut the following year (QRO review). Cults and 2013 follow-up Static (QRO review) revived girl-groups sounds for the twenty-first century, without feeling like a retread. However, they’ve been largely treading their own water, and Offering, while nice, offers no new ground.

From the titular opener on forward, Offering is a synth-heavy girl-group shine. Even the sadder sway songs, such as standout “Right Words”, are bright. It makes for a nice feel, but all runs together, and is very similar to prior work.

Even if Offering brings nothing new to the Cults table, it is another nice piece of work from the duo.
