Fear of Men : LoomSo often acts are either downbeat or upbeat, rain or sunshine, but not both. It makes for a note that might be strong, but is also just one-note. Brighton’s Fear of Men nicely mix between the two on their full-length debut, Loom.

After a sub-minute acoustic intro “Alta”, Loom leans heavily on the fuzzy dreams, but goes from sad to bright and back again. Loss-laden affairs such as the quiet “Vitrine” or goodbye “America” are matched by brighter tunes like “Tephra” and “Descent”. Then there are the songs that bring both sides together, like the enchanting but melancholy “Inside”, more active “Luna”, or reach & encompassing “Seer”.

Loom is a sweet and dreamy record throughout (and, for the record, Fear of Men is half male/half female group). However, there are many sides to those dreams.
