Finch : What It Is To Burn - XIn 2006, Finch decided they would take an ‘indefinite break’ from the music world due to individual priorities taking precedence, and for the next six years they continued to attempt a sporadic existence as a band (trying and failing to launch, what would have been, their third studio album).

However, it seems that the ‘fashion’ of reunion tours has not yet depleted.  What It Is To Burn – X contains audio of their tenth anniversary tour – where they played the entirety of their debut album – held in February 2013 at The Glasshouse in Pomona, CA.

What It Is To Burn – X showcases their songs from the first record that was originally released ten years ago, which led them to become favoured amongst post-hardcore music fans.  How a decade has passed already, I do not know… but it seems they made the right decision to put on this tour.

Featuring near original band members (excluding the bassist), they perform well-loved tracks such as: “What It Is To Burn”, “Letters to You”, “Post Script” and “Perfection Through Silence”.  A new lease of life is given to these decade old tracks that had once enamoured my teenage self.  Each track is full of the same energy, power and progressive elements of the original studio album, with a roaring crowd being their well-deserved support.  Each song is an emotional performance.  Nate Barcalow’s vocals are as energetic and tantalizing as they were a decade ago, along with guitars and drums, from respective members Randy Strohmeyer and Alex Pappas, creating immersive rhythms and riffs that will capture you from beginning to end.

It is a shame the studio albums that followed did not quite match up to the standard of What It Is To Burn, but it seems that there may be hope for the future yet as, although there has not been any promise for future material, this reunion tour seems to be a re-awakening for the band.
