Leeroy Stagger : Strange PathIt’s not easy to stand out as a country/folk singer/songwriter, a genre that goes all the way back to Bob Dylan & Pete Seeger, where it’s mainly just your voice & your acoustic guitar. Yet Leeroy Stagger manages to do so on the very impressive Strange Path, which does country/folk excellently all around.

Stagger has wry charm in spades, like Dylan back in the day, such as on “Deeper Well”, the philosophically wry “Jesus + Buddha”, and the sweet “Hey Hey! Song for Gord”. But he can also do everything from the dark in the powerful “Leonard Cohen (Is Dead)” to the uplifting “These Things” just before it. Practically each song on Strange Path would be a standout for an artist, something to build a whole career around.

So even if you’re overwhelmed with new music, even if you can’t keep up with the artists that you already like, make space for Leeroy Stagger and his Strange Path.
