Miles Kane : Coup de GraceThere is a particular strain of British rock that decidedly winds its way through the club, all dance and party and come-ons. It was in the glam-rock of the seventies, nineties Madchester, and Arctic Monkey’s MySpace-fueled “I Bet You Look Good On the Dancefloor” breakthrough at the start of this century. Miles Kane swings it sly on Coup de Grace.

All the songs on Coup are situated on the dancefloor, when Kane beckoning the listener in, but there is variety. There’s the speedy slyness of opener “Too Little Too Late” and “Something to Rely On”, the record’s best tracks. But there’s also a more funkified procession in “Loaded” and “Cold Light of Day”, soul-disco “The Wrong Side of Life”, and swinging cool closer “Shavambacu”.

Coup de Grace rises and falls on Miles Kane’s personality, and whether you want to get that invite to the party. But it’s a strong invite.
