Sin Fang Bous : Clangour
7.4 Morr
2009

Sindri Mar Sigfusson first appeared on the Morr label as a member of Seabear. Their 2006 album, The Ghost That Carried Us Away (QRO review), elegantly mixed Iceland’s ultra-calm aura with light pop music, and Sigfusson continues to do so on the debut by Sin Fang Bous.  Clangour is most comprised of feathery vocals, soft acoustic sounds, and organic stomps and as a whole, they’re immensely charming.

Nothing but feel-good vibes emanate from Clangour, as guitar-driven jams bounce with a sly coyness.  Synths, piano, and narcotic voice tracks join the mostly acoustic affair, and each track on the album has an undeniable friendliness to it.  The opener, "Advent In Ives Garden" sets the tone by mixing an acoustic shuffle together with quirky blips and swirling serenades.  Tracks like "Catch the Light" and "A Fire To Sleep In" bolster this light-heartedness, with clever effects that immerse the listener in a velvet blanket.  The closer "Lies" is the most ambitious track, with over five minutes of sparkling piano neatly dancing around a chugging acoustic track.

With Clangour, Sindri Mar Sigfusson adds another noteworthy album to Iceland’s increasingly essential catalog.  The atmosphere on the album is golden-hearted and the sounds melt together with amazing ease.
