Yeasayer : Erotic RerunsYeasayer started as experimental and hard to categorize, and have only gone on from there. Somehow their strangeness hasn’t dampened their catchiness, and that reaches a new level on Erotic Reruns. While leaning more on their dance rhythms than prior releases, this makes for a particularly accessible Yeasayer.

Erotic plays like some alt-alt-discotheque, from the past, present, and near future all at once in songs like “Ecstatic Baby” and closer “Fluttering in the Floodlights”. “Ohm Death” manages to be both laid-back and ominous at the same time, single “I’ll Kiss You Tonight” both romantic and disturbing. Yeasayer almost go lounge on “Blue Skies Dandelions”, but of course in their signature way.

Yeasayer’s last release, 2016’s Amen & Goodbye (QRO review) sounded like a final record just from the title, and the band did disappear for a while after touring it. But they’ve returned, and there’s still nothing like Yeasayer out there.
