Die Antwoord brought their super fun Mount Ninja and Da Nice Time Kid tour to The Tabernacle in Atlanta on Wednesday, October 26th. Hailing from Cape Town, South Africa, the group mixed rap, techno, dub and something like J-Pop amazingly, and have been termed rave rap. The threesome in the group are Ninja (rapper), Yolandi Visser (J-Pop style rapper), and their DJ, God, who did a great job of keeping the tracks going in this high-energy show.

The singing duo Ninja and Yolandi continually walked or ran back and forth across the two level stage that featured large visual screens across the front surface of both, which displayed constant drawings, comics, logos and words. The duo also jumped or skipped, sometimes with their two Halloween-themed dancers, who had matching costumes as mummies or monsters. God stayed in his DJ booth up top in the middle, wearing a Leatherface mask (from the movie Texas Chainsaw Massacre), but sometimes interacted when one or both of the singers came up to the top level.

Ninja and Yolandi were good at drawing the audience in by pointing at all sides of the venue and balconies, also shaking hands and singing directly to people. Ninja did some stage diving (once upside down for a few minutes) while singing on several songs, and, at the set’s end, jumped down from the top level, then immediately went into a synchronized dance. The duo looked like they were making videos of each other during the show.

NinjaYolandiNinja and Yolandi wore matching outfits, but mixed it up from time to time, so it was a bit of a fashion show as well as a song and dance show. Clothing alternated between crop-tops, bikini shorts, boxers, and oversized orange, white or black hoodies and sweatpants. Ninja and God played shirtless during the entire show when not wearing hoodies.

Props included two Casper the Friendly Ghost-like inflatables with large penises, and confetti drops or canons and streamers. The visual presentation was nearly overwhelming with the video screens, dancing and clothes changing, but the show was definitely entertaining.
