Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros : Live

Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros played to a sold out crowd at  ‘KINK’s on the Waterfront’ Rose Festival Concerts in Portland on Saturday, May 25th 2013 during a full moon, lunar eclipse in Sagittarius.

With heavier than normal rain for May, it looked like the event would be a wash; however, the skies cleared with sunbreaks and glimpses of the full moon for Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros with Sons of Fathers, Wake Owl, and Fort Atlantic at Tom McCall Waterfront Park Saturday evening.

Packed with families, young-adults, and the raucous beer drinkers gaily pouring their drinks upon everyone, the waterfront erupted with cheering when The Magnetic Zeros finally hit the stage after a KINK.FM intermission and happy birthday salute to one of their staffers.  During the KINK.FM cheer session, the coterie sang happy birthday to the birthday girl with the accompaniment of the energetic, southerners, Sons of Fathers.

Alexander EbertSons of Fathers from Austin Texas played a righteous, high energy set to the hesitant Portland crowd after Wake Owl’s beautiful melodies.  After which, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros opened with “Man on Fire” to frenzied, cheering fans.  Alexander Ebert returned their exuberance with his customary soiree with the front-line.

Ebert apologized for not dancing with them as well, mentioning that he was sick.  He did, however, share in a little ‘smoke’ during a song.

Jade CastrinosAlways, sans set list, after The Magnetic Zeros opened with “Man on Fire” they spontaneously played their way through the rest of the evening with their unique connection with one another.  The energy between Ebert and Jade Castrinos was exceptionally joyful and infectious as they swung each other around the stage arm in arm.

“Child” and “Truth” both help an especially spiritual feel on this particular evening, with Ebert almost kneeling to Christian Letts as he sang “Child”.  During “Truth”, Ebert whispered verses to the bewitched audience.  Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros completed the evening with “Home” and a request from the crowd to share a story.

Ebert hugged and bowed to both of them and to the audience as Castrinos exclaimed how beautiful they were.  With a hand from Castrinos, Ebert returned to the stage and The Magnetic Zeros finished “Home” with Portland fans singing along.

What could be better than witnessing Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros during the full flower, full moon, lunar eclipse on the waterfront for shifting one’s energy in a positive direction?
