Evangelicals : Live Still early in their latest major tour, Evangelicals continued mastering their haunted house show with a vigorous performance in Cambridge, MA.   On February 27th, 2008, the Norman four-piece threw down black lights and a hugely energetic performance in support of their album, The Evening Descends (QRO review) at Middle East Upstairs.  While almost impossible to reproduce their studio efforts, the group still managed to express the essence of their amazingly erratic rock sound.

Playing a heavy selection from Evening and couple older tracks, Evangelicals filled their slot with mind-altering maze of pop and pure insanity.  Their single, “Skeleton Man” was executed beautifully leaving the people there to see Headlights’ more structured pop wide-eyed and impressed.  “Midnight Vignette”, “Bellawood”, and “Party Crashin'” were all powerful and kept everyone on their toes.  Throughout the show, singer Josh Jones’s voice took a beating though, as it surely has all tour long, as perhaps the only discrepancy from the actual album.  The entire time, black lights and glowing neon effects highlighted the band on stage as no other band has attempted – and it actually looked great.

With a bag full of tricks both sonic and visual, Evangelicals live show is something to behold – and they’re just really getting used to it.  It’s definitely worth checking out and don’t miss a minute because there’s never a dull moment and you never know what might happen next.
