As part of a worldwide tour in support of their latest release, No More Stories… (QRO review), Mew took their bombastic stage show to Paradise Rock Club in Boston, MA on a summery Saturday night. Their performance was a feast for the senses, as it not only featured a lengthy set that drew from their whole catalog, but included a constantly busy video screen behind them.
They kicked off the night with the first two tracks from No More Stories…, "New Terrain" and "Introducing Palace Players". Right off the bat, the audience’s energy was cranked way up, and Mew never let it fall. They followed those up with the first two tracks from 2005’s And the Glass Handed Kites while the crowd – already in a sweat – began yelling out requests. The band continued to draw from that album and 2003’s Frengers before finishing their main set in a tumultuous flourish. New tracks "Repeaterbeater" and "Sometimes Life Isn’t Easy" absolutely soared, and "Snow Brigade" whipped the crowd into such a frenzy that the demand for an encore was irrefusable.
Mew came back for a four-song encore that was split up between Frengers songs and And the Glass Handed Kites songs, which all came out beautifully. Loud as hell and as smooth as butter at the same time, the band pulled of a highly successful start to their American tour with a carefully-crafted setlist and a staggering amount of energy.
