Sony Hall is located on 235 W 46th Street, Manhattan, between Eighth Avenue and Broadway/Ninth Avenue. Right off of Times Square, it is around Broadway theaters, on the same block as Richard Rodgers Theatre, home to Hamilton. It opened on March 27th, 2018, with a concert by MGMT.

The actual space is located down two flights of stairs (past the coat check one flight down). Sony Hall is a large space, with the stage to the far left of the entrance. There are installed tables and chairs on either raised side for VIP. The main floor can be converted into tables and chairs. There is a large bar at the back, near the entrance. The bathrooms are located near the entrance. One can order food as well as drinks (including an impressive wine list).

As would be expected from a venue next to Hamilton (and the Church of Scientology), Sony Hall is showy and touristy, but also higher-market. There is great lighting and sound, but the prices are high. The staff can be particularly overworked when the main stage floor has tables, whose chairs push close to each other. The acts and crowd can lean into the older end of the market, but Sony Hall is pushing to book younger. Sort of the successor to former nearby B.B. King’s, reaching for all aspects of the higher-end market.
