While we’re all happy that the COVID pandemic is slowly moving into the rearview mirror (Delta variant & anti-vaxxers notwithstanding), there is still very much to be angry about, from global warming to right-wing election rigging. So, it’s the perfect time, maybe it unfortunately always will be the perfect time, for a new record from the agit-punk masters Rise Against, Nowhere Generation.
Of course, Rise Against have lost none of their fury, and none of the speed. They’ve honed their signature sound to a knife point. There is pressing power to their “Broken Dreams, Inc.” and righteousness to reminding us what we’ve been trying to forget, that we’ll have to pay the price, “Sooner Or Later”. The title track is an anthem for the youth of today who’ve been sold up the river by their elders (even if the veteran band haven’t been kids for a while).
Obviously closely fitting with previous Rise Against releases, but the world hasn’t gotten any better, has it? And the songs do run together a bit as an angry whole (there are two songs about “Dreams”), but the call to action is still needed, still burning.
