Ruby Velle brought her Soulphonics to Atlanta’s Terminal West for an uplifting, danceable show of soulful, jazzy pop on Friday, September 18th. Velle was a wonderful lead singer, sultry and smooth, fiery and sweet. Her voice was on point as she belted out songs with complete control and finesse, oozing confidence through the entire set. The audience was quite appreciative, clapping easily.
The Soulphonics had a three-piece horn section, two saxes and a trumpet, that gave her act punch, class and clout, rare for an Atlanta band. The pianist played jazzy, bright tones that blended perfectly in with the horns, electric guitar, drums and electric bass. The entire band seemed at ease and happy to play a home date.
