In the midst of recording their third album, stellastarr* jumped out on the road for a four-city tour, ending with a five-night stop in NYC. At Great Scott in Boston, the band played approximately thirteen songs, with several new ones included.
Perhaps more than anything, the four-piece was looking to stay fresh as much as test out new songs. While some of the new tracks flew right over the crowd's unfamiliar heads, the older ones provided more than enough energy to keep the night rolling. 
New tracks like "Freak Out" and "Warchild" hinted at the yet-to-be-released third album while tunes like "Sweet Troubled Soul", "The Diver", and the ever-popular "My Coco" (played during the instant encore) gave their set a high-energy, but well-mixed, personality.
It's always good to see a band take a break from making an album to tour, no matter the reason. stellastarr* did themselves and their fans a favor by launching this short tour to avoid becoming a lost memory and keeping the band's taste fresh in everyone's mouths.
