STRFKR : Being No One, Going Nowhere

The band once known as (and still pronounced as) “Starfucker” came up about a decade ago, as disco-dance electronic styles were being revived. Yet they were always different than the ‘press play and cash the check’ electronic artists who seemed to come up everywhere (and remixing each other incessantly), and not just because they played their own instruments & their anti-careerist name. Being No One, Going Nowhere sees the group more relaxed & comfortable, but still on the dance floor.

Admittedly, Nowhere starts off on the more relaxed notes of “Tape Machine” and “Satellite”, not the big bang that disco-dance records usually begin with. But the album then does get you on your feet with pieces like the higher “Never Ever”, catchy-tech “Something Ain’t Right”, and pressing “Open Your Eyes”. Sexy comes into play with “In the End”, but there’s also the intimate “When I’m With You”.

And then the record ends on its title track curve ball, darker and slower and oh so ominous. Amid all of the disco-dance out there, STRFKR still stand apart.
