This band has absolutely nothing to do with the legendary Sun Ra. Sun Raaaa is just a kickass noise-gaze-wave-garage freakout from Australia. Stumbled across this band via Rollo Grady, the inestimable #JAMBORINI veteran and chewer of broken glass.
Sometimes you need a pure shot of rock n roll adrenalin to clean out the circulatory system. Sun Raaaa’s 4-song EP Shitty Surf Songs (or is it Monica’s Shitty Surf Songs?) cleans out the pipes with some yowling, growling guitar, reverbed licks, and beach bummer vocals. Some strains of Fungi Girls here, but, really, the Australians owe allegience to garage rock culture in toto. Keep it simple & keep it rockin, y’all!
