Sinkane

Where did the summer go?  It’s time to start gearing up for October, when we’ll be destroying our minds, bodies, and souls for the annual CMJ Music Marathon.  On August 21st, the CMJ network started building anticipation by throwing a party for the announcement of the first round of artists set to perform this year.  One such early frontrunner is Sinkane, the Sudanese-born artist (who’d previously served as drummer for Yeasayer – QRO interview) who’s showing a shift away from disco for DFA.  He took the stage at Mercury Lounge (QRO venue review) to showcase his brand of oddball rock, and we’ll undoubtedly be back for more when October comes around.

CMJ veterans Tanlines headlined the night, because there aren’t enough reminders that summer is almost over.  The Brooklyn duo sounded as tight as ever, highlighting songs from their acclaimed album Mixed Emotions, including “Brothers” and “Real Life”.  An unnamed new song showed promise of Tanlines continuing their winning streak, and the essential “All of Me” closed out the night.

The 2012 CMJ Music Marathon will take place from October 16-20.  Other artists announced include Icona Pop, Housse de Racket, MNDR, Poolside, and MS MR.  See CMJ.com for the lineup so far.
