Somewhere between mainstream new country, old school country, and alt-country lies the uplifting, ‘up with people’ country-folk that has become popular these days. While not revelatory in term of sonic growth, it’s a deeply appealing sound, carrying the listener along in its celebration of life. Maybe doing it best is The Head and The Heart, like with Living Mirage.

Living is an album about positivity, and if you want negativity, look elsewhere. It’s not bubblegum in that shine, but definitely does shine on pieces like the opener “See You Through My Eyes”. There is a polished sheen to songs such as “Honeybee” or the mission statement of ‘up with life’ “I Found Out”. And there is some more interesting work, for instance the uplift delivered in a build on the title track.
The Head and The Heart and Living Mirage are not going to be favorites among the hipsterati and other tut-tutters, but they are a highly enjoyable and affirming band.
