The London Suede : Autofiction

Nineties Brit-pop greats The London Suede (or just Suede, if you’re not in America) are now four albums into their reunion, and while they easily could be just coasting & worn out, they’ve found a renewed energy. Autofiction has that later-in-life revival spirit to go with their grand ways.

While perhaps not as steeped in grandeur as prior Suede records, Autofiction is still definitely grand, such as with the emotion & guitars of “Personality Disorder”. But the band doesn’t rely on just that. Opening track “She Still Leads Me On” is killer expanding indie-rock, while “Shadow Self” has great pushing darkness. They can even slow it up without losing themselves, such as on the tragic “It’s Always the Quiet Ones” and “What Am I Without You?”.

There’s something really great about an act that might be a decade or two past their defining era, but are comfortable in that fact – and in who they are now. And keep putting out strong new records like Autofiction.
