We all need some uplift these days, but it’s easy to go overboard on it, all sickly sweet bromides and Chicken Soup For the Soul. This desire, and issue, stretches across musical styles, from EDM to country. But The Lone Bellow delivers uplift right on Half Moon Light.
One can tell that The Lone Bellow really put their heart into Half Moon Light. There’s big, emotional uplift all over the place, from “I Can Feel You Dancing” to “Wonder”, “Count On Me”, and the strong “Friends”. Even when the group is weary, like “Martingales”, or more straight folk in “Wash It Clean”, things look brighter. The album also definitely benefits from the pieces with female vocals, the blues-y “Just Enough To Get By” and touching “Illegal Immigrant”.
With fifteen tracks, including an “Intro”, “Interlude”, and “Finale”, Light is anything but Half, shining all the way.
