The Twilight Sad : IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME

There is lots of tragic music out there these days, in America & Britain (and one doesn’t really have to guess why…), so much so that it can kind of overwhelm. Why listen to yet another act that’s bound to make you sad? Even high quality won’t necessarily win one over – think of all the sad movies that critics love, but you know you’re never going to be in the mood to see. However, there are powerful groups out there that one should listen to, whether you’re happy or not, such as Scotland’s The Twilight Sad and IT WON/T BE LIKE THIS ALL THE TIME.

“Sad” is admittedly in their name, but they’re more than that (and took that name before the Twilight Saga…). There’s a pressure to the band at their best, such as “Let/s Get Lost”, but they can also do encompassing beauty (“VTr”), and a slower, softer cry (the following “Sunday Day13”). After shifting into a more stripped down sounds on their last two, Nobody Wants To Be Here and Nobody Wants To Leave (QRO review) and No One Can Ever Know (QRO review), The Twilight Sad definitely return to their bigger style, including more synths.

[note: singer James Graham’s Scottish brogue, and the band still being tragic, can’t help but bring to mind the tragic suicide last year of musical contemporary & countryman Scott Hutchison of Frightened Rabbit]

So if you want to have a shiny, happy day, by all means stay away while the sun is out, but you’re gonna wanna listen to The Twilight Sad sooner or later.
