The Weather Station : How Is It That I Should Look At the Stars

Last year, Tamara Lindeman’s wonderful The Weather Station finally broke out with the beautiful Ignorance (QRO review), and even managed to play some shows at the start of this year, before another wave of COVID forced cancellations. But she instead announced a surprise follow-up full-length, How Is It That I Should Look At the Stars, that sees her beauty even more intimate.

This is a quiet, up-close-and-personal record, like peeking in on Lindeman with her home piano. That leads to some meandering, and the songs feel a bit underdone, but also very close to the heart. There’s the lovely story of the magpie in “Ignorance” (yes, a song on this record has the same title as the last album…), and her own childhood story “Stars”. She talks about talking about love on “To Talk About”.

While leaning more towards a bonus release than a full-fledged stand-alone, the tiny piano numbers running together a bit, it’s more beauty from a beautiful artist.
