Yumi and The Weather : It's All In My Head

Sonic fuzz can be quite forgiving, but also quite limiting. Fuzzy sounds can cover up mistakes and elevate pieces, but also tend to all sound the same, one big ball of fuzz. Thankfully, on It’s All In My Head, her second full-length as Yumi and The Weather, Ruby Taylor exceeds her fuzzy boundaries.

Head is an album that can have the catchy, fun garage of the opening one-two “Imagine” and the title track, but also the echoing haunt of “Will You Ever Leave My Mind”. There’s a road-press speed to pieces such as “Howl”, “Be Your Lover”, and “Finelines”, but then the album ends with the atmospheric “Night Walk”.

Fuzzy music has a wide appeal, from indie-rockers to psychedelic jam bands, and there’s a good reason why, but too often acts can get lost in their own fuzzy fog. Thankfully, Ruby Taylor stands out from the fuzz as Yumi and The Weather on It’s All In My Head.
