New Zealand’s Yumi Zouma emerged out of the Christchurch Earthquake with the lovely Truth or Consequences (QRO review) – only to release it in the middle of March 2020, a.k.a. when the world shut down. But they’ve persevered, and now comes the bright pop emotion of Present Tense.
Yumi Zouma have not lost their shine amid the worldwide pandemic, such as with the sweet pop sway of opener “Give It Hell”, or the sad glow pop of the following “Mona Lisa”. There’s the upbeat lovely stepper “In the Eyes of Our Love”, but also the chill heartbreak of “Haunt”. And Present ends with the strong echoing close “Astral Projection”.
Hopefully no more headline news tragedy will follow Yumi Zouma, as they continue to light up wonderfully.
