The fact that the concert season is winding down at iThink Amphitheatre was not a deterrent as the Zac Brown Band rolled into West Palm Beach on Sunday, October 9th, as a sold-out crowd welcomed the country superstars and their ‘Out In The Middle’ tour on a damp and muggy Sunday night.
Rocking a sleeveless Iron Maiden tor shirt revealing an arm full of Day of the Dead tattoos, Brown and the band gave the crowd a two-and-a-half hour tour through the existence of the band starting from the days playing in dive bars through today. Brown introduced each song with a story about the track or of a particular band member. He told of the importance of creating a quality setlist in order to keep the bar patrons happy.
The first set was a journey back to the days of playing Atlanta area dive bars with the stage transformed into a replica of one such bar. With each song, another band member joined Brown after an introduction and a funny story. By the time the fourth song rolled around the original band was assembled and they launched into a medley of country classics including “Forever And Ever, Amen”, and “9 To 5”.
Set number two featured the intro of a brass section and backup singers. This set was mostly sentimental songs and slower songs.
The first part of the final set was composed of songs that had the audience dancing including a cover of “The Devil Went Down To Georgia”. Part two of this set saw the return of the opening act Robert Randolph (QRO photos opening). This was named the “mega band” and featured each band member getting a turn handling the vocals on a different pop song. The show finished with the mega-hit “Chicken Fried”.
