The Head and The Heart : Every Shade of Blue

We all need hope these days, but too often since the pandemic & more, artists have been delving the deeps. While that often makes powerful music, there is something to be said for an album that lifts spirits, such as The Head and The Heart’s Every Shade of Blue.

Like previous releases such as 2019’s Living Mirage (QRO review), Blue is decidedly ‘up with life’ from the titular start to the “GTFU” sweet finish. Admittedly, over sixteen tracks & almost an hour, Shade is relentless and runs together a bit, a number of bright pieces not standing out amid so much brightness. But then there are the emotional pleas to life & hope such as “Virginia (Wind In the Night)” and “Hurts (But It Goes Away)”, where the darkness is acknowledged as well as the dawn.

So, if you want something angry, something tragic, look elsewhere, but for hope, embrace The Head and The Heart with their Every Shade of Blue.
