Here’s a band that really grinds out the heavy drone psych. Think of Sonic Youth in a Silver Session mode; Neu on quaaludes; spaced out journeys to the far side of your Saturday night. The band is VERMA, from my own hometown Chicago. Bummed it took me this long to hear of these guys, because their 2010 release Salted Earth is absolutely devastating in all the right ways. I’d love to include the two killer tracks "Unending Night" and "White Heat" in this blog post- the band really unloads its sonic vocabulary- but, at 7:32 and 9:40 respectively, I thought it’d be best just to give you a little taste with "The Big Sleep". Hit up their Bandcamp to download the entire album for free, see some vids at their Myspace, and say hi on the Twitter. Enjoy!

Oh yeah, they’re playing the Hideout in Chicago on 1/22 as part of Psych Fest 2: QRO will be there, come check it out!
